STAMPS, FIRST MAYOR OF DOWNEY IN ORDER THAT THE OFFICE OF MAYOR BE PASSED AMONG THE VARIOUS COUNCILMEN, AND EXPRESSING THEIR GRATITUDE OF THE ENTIRE CITY FOR HIS TRADERSHIP DURING THE FIRST DAYS. OF INCORPORATION OF THE NEW CITY WHEREAS, James L. Stamps acted as the first Mayor of the City of Downey from the date of incorporation, December 17, 1956, . to July 8th,1957; and WHEREAS, James L. Stamps did successfully lead the City Council and City Administration through the difficult days of organization of the new City; and WHEREAS, Mayor Stamps did ably represent the. City at the many functions of our new city Government; and WHEEREAS, Mayor Stamps does now wish to resign so that the office of Mayor may be shared by his fellow councilmen NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the. City of Downey does resolve as follows: SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of Downey accepts with great regret the resignation of Mayor James L. Stamps as first Mayor of the City of Downey and extends to him its heartfelt appreciation for his leader- ship -, diplomacy, courage, and fellowship during the period of his mayor ship and wish him well for his past and future endeavors in public office. SECTION 2. The City Clerk salt certify to the adoption of this resolution and cause a certified copy thereof to he forwarded to Mayor James L. Stamps.
