HomeMy WebLinkAbout07. Designate DUSD area Respect Rd
AGENDA MEMO
DATE:
October 11, 2011
TO:
Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council
FROM:
Council Member Mario A. Guerra
SUBJECT:Designation of area leading into Downey Unified School District’s
Administration Building as “Respect Road”
RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council approve the display of the Character Counts pillar “Respect” at the
entrance to the Downey Unified School District offices in the form of a sign designating the
entrance as “Respect Road.”
DISCUSSION
Downey is designated a Character Counts City and displays the six Character Counts
Pillars in its Council Chambers. The Council has also expressed interest in naming public
access points and roadways after each pillar and previously named the parking area
behind City Hall as “Responsibility Way” and a roadway section at the Kaiser Permanente
hospital development as “Caring Way.”
With the City and School District working together to promote the six Character Counts
Pillars, trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship, in its
schools and in other City locations, it would follow suit that the entrance to the School
District offices be named “Respect Road.
FISCAL IMPACT
The only expense will be the cost to prepare and install the single “Respect Road” sign.
