SUBJECT: EDWARD BYRNE MEMORIAL JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT
FY 2011 LOCAL SOLICITATION
RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council authorize staff to submit a grant request for the Edward Byrne
Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program 2011 Local Solicitation.
DISCUSSION
The purpose of this report is to provide City Council with the background information on
the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program Local Solicitation
and to seek approval for the allocation of funds that have been made available.
Historically, we have used JAG Grant monies to provide the funding for officers who
work the Neighborhood Preservation Program, as well as for community education
programs and special overtime programs aimed at crime suppression and prevention.
We intend to use this funding for special overtime programs that target specific crime
trends, such as street robberies, auto theft, burglary, as well as Neighborhood
Preservation and the School Resource Program.
After Department of Justice approval, the Police Department is set to receive $42,678.
There is no matching fund requirement.
FISCAL IMPACT
No General Fund impact.
