Adopted Sanitary Sewer Master Plan and Sewer System
Management Plan (SSMP)
Implemented new sewer rates June of 2010 to:
•Eliminate Sewer Fund deficit
•Establish self-supporting Sewer Fund
•Implement O&M and CIP improvements identified in Master
Plan/SSMP
Our Sewer System
•Population Served –114,000
•200 miles of clay pipe, 6”to 21”
•Over 4,000 manholes
•Two lift stations
•CSDLAC –trunk lines and
treatment
Master Plan/SSMP Implementation
•Primary Focus –more proactive approach to O&M of aging sewer system
•Year 1 Goal –reduce frequency of SSOs
•Improvements since adoption of Master Plan/SSMP and sewer rates:
Implemented system wide-sewer cleaning
•Approximately 9 miles/month (2 year frequency vs. 3 year plan)

Video inspection of suspect
areas found while cleaning
Implemented expanded
chemical root control
program from as-needed basis
to 1 mile of impacted pipe

Purchased trailer-mounted jetter and nozzles and small back-up vacuum
trailer for cleaning sewers
Sewer staff training on proper use and maintenance of jetting equipment
and various nozzles

•Insecticide application at 1,000
manholes
•Identifying manholes in hard to
reach backyard areas for future
flushing
•Expanding nighttime flushing on
major streets
