TO:
Mayor and Members of the City Council
FROM:
Office of the City Manager
By: Scott K. Pomrehn, Assistant Deputy City Manager
SUBJECT: HOLIDAY LANE PARADE PERMIT
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council approve the Parade Permit Application
submitted by the Downey Chamber of Commerce.
BACKGROUND
The Chamber of Commerce sponsors the annual Holiday Lane Parade, which travels
south along Downey Avenue, between Lexington and Third Street. The parade is
scheduled for Sunday, December 5, 2010.
DISCUSSION
The parade begins at 1:30 p.m., which will require a Downey Avenue street closure,
between Lexington and Third Street, from 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. As in previous years,
the closure of Downey Avenue during the mid-day of Sunday will not create significant
traffic problems either along the unclosed portions of Downey Avenue or the streets that
intersect with Downey Avenue. Northbound traffic will be redirected at Firestone Blvd.;
and southbound traffic will be redirected at Florence Avenue. The Chamber of
Commerce has submitted the necessary insurance requirements.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The Downey Chamber of Commerce will pay for the cost of providing City services and
equipment for the parade.
