HomeMy WebLinkAbout04. Police Purchase Command Vehicle
AGENDA MEMO
DATE:
August 24, 2010
TO:
Mayor and Members of the City Council
Office of the City Manager
FROM:
Rick Esteves
Chief of Police
SUBJECT: UNSCHEDULED PURCHASE REQUEST FOR NEW
POLICE PATROL SUPERVISOR’S VEHICLE
RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council appropriate $80,500 from the Asset Forfeiture Fund to purchase a
new Police Patrol Supervisor vehicle with required equipment.
DISCUSSION
Currently, the department has one vehicle that is utilized as a patrol supervisor’s unit.
This vehicle is outfitted and serves a dual purpose. It is deployed on a daily basis by
supervisors in the field and is used as a command post during critical incidences. When
the current vehicle is taken out of service for routine maintenance or repair, our ability to
provide the best response/service is greatly reduced.
The purchase of a second Chevy Tahoe will ensure that a vehicle of this caliber is
available for deployment during critical situations. Using this type of vehicle allows for
critical operations to be managed more effectively. It allows the supervisor to maintain
better recordation and overview of the operation as well as making instrumental
equipment readily available in the field.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
There is no financial impact to the General Fund. The purchase of this vehicle and
associated equipment would be purchased from the Asset Forfeiture Fund.
