Pomrehn, Assistant Deputy City Manager SUBJECT: Columbia Memorial Space Science Learning Center Status Report RECOMMENDATION Receive and file report on update of Columbia Memorial Space Science Learning Center. BACKGROUND The Columbia Memorial Space Science Learning Center opened to the public in October 2009. Since the opening, staff has worked to complete the initial group of exhibits and implement educational programs and historic workshops related to the history of the site. In addition, marketing of the Challenger Learning Center has been on-going with several missions being completed and many more planned for the next school year. Overall, the Center continues to attract more and more visitors each month and groups continue to inquire about hosting meetings as word spreads throughout the region about the Center. DISCUSSION Staff will update the council on several aspects of the Columbia Memorial Space Science Learning Center including fundraising / grant opportunities, program / exhibit development, and on-going marketing / outreach to schools, former employees, and civic groups. Additionally, staff will answer any questions council may have regarding the Center. FISCAL IMPACT None. CITY OF DOWNEY, CALIFORNIA
