SUBJECT: CASH CONTRACT NO. 664B
FIRE STATION NO. 1 PERIMETER WALLS PROJECT
RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council accept the improvements and the maintenance responsibility for
improvements constructed under Cash Contract No. 664B, and approve the final
construction contract amount of $30,689.
DISCUSSION:
On January 26, 2010, the City Council awarded Cash Contract No. 664B to Titanium
Construction Group, Inc. for the construction of the new masonry wall improvements to
enhance security at Fire Station No. 1. The construction of the improvements has been
satisfactorily completed as stated in the Contract.
The work under this phase of the project included the removal of the existing chain link
fence and the demolition and removal of the existing unreinforced block walls adjacent
to the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) building. The new reinforced seven-foot
four-inch high split-face masonry block walls were constructed on the south side of the
facility along Orange Avenue and eight-foot high precision masonry block walls were
constructed along the east side of the facility. The restoration of concrete slabs and
asphalt pavement were also included under this initial phase of the project.
New motorized sliding metal gates will be installed to replace the existing sliding chain
link gates at a later date under the second phase of this project.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The final cost of the construction contract is $30,689, whereas the original bid amount
was $25,998. The net increase of $4,691 is the result of an increase in the contract
quantities due to an increase in the masonry wall height. The total estimated project
cost is $46,411, which includes engineering, contract administration, inspection, etc.
Sufficient funding is available for this project, as detailed in the following table:
