SUBJECTEstablishment of a Veterans Memorial Ad Hoc Council Subcommittee
:
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council establish a Veterans Memorial ad hoc council subcommittee to
work with staff and interested parties to formulate concepts, possible locations, and
funding options for an expanded Veterans Memorial to honor the men and women who
have served in the Armed Forces.
BACKGROUND:
The Council recently implemented a Military Banner Program to honor Downey men
and women who are serving in the Armed Forces in active military zones. Although the
City does have two Veterans Memorials honoring past military service, the subcom-
mittee would investigate renovating, expanding, and/or relocation of the existing
memorials. The existing memorials are located in the quad area adjacent the Downey
Theater. The area also includes flag poles, a water fountain, and several benches.
DISCUSSION:
The subcommittee would develop an action plan that would be brought back to the
council for approval. The action plan will detail concepts, possible locations, and funding
options for the project.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact associated with the proposed recommendation.
