HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 09-7123 - Safe Routes to School - Woodruff Av. at Via Amorita pedestrian traffic signalRESOLUTION NO. 09-7123 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY APPROVING THE SUBMITTAL OF THE “WOODRUFF AVENUE AT VIA AMORITA PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC SIGNAL” APPLICATION FOR SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL FUNDING. WHEREAS, in 2004, SB 1087 extended the Safe Routes to School (SR2S) Program for three additional years until 2008 and in 2007, the passage of AB 57 extended the program until January 1, 2013; and WHEREAS, the SR2S Program is a construction program intended to improve and enhance the safety of pedestrian- and bicycle-related infrastructure to improve conditions for children in kindergarten through eighth grade to safely walk and bicycle to and from school; and WHEREAS, Caltrans is soliciting project applications for the 8,h Funding Cycle (Year 2009) of the SR2S Program; and WHEREAS, The City of Downey desires to construct improvements at the intersection of Woodruff Avenue at Via Amorita to enhance pedestrian safety for school-age children walking to and from East Middle School; and WHEREAS, each agency is required to submit an application to Caltrans for each project ; [ NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. To approve the submittal of the “Woodruff Avenue at Via Amorita Pedestrian Traffic Signal” application for SR2S funding. SECTION 2.
